Parents sometimes have to go to extreme lengths to enforce screen time rules. Because as much as they might like it, kids can’t be on their devices all the time. Katharine McPhee‘s son Rennie, 2 — who she shares with husband David Foster — kept asking for his iPad, and she seemingly thought she had a great strategy for keeping it away from him.
Putting it in the oven.
Yes, the oven.
If you have alarm bells (or fire alarms) going off, that’s because it did not go well. The actress and singer shared a video on her Instagram story with the words, “Just over here cooking iPads … I tried to hide it and forgot it was in there while [preheating] up the oven.”
Multiple members of the SheKnows team have admitted to accidentally leaving their phone in the fridge (don’t judge!) but purposefully putting something in the oven and accidentally cooking it is a new one!
McPhee’s friend Kelly Viavattine caught footage of McPhee realizing the stench coming from her kitchen was the smell of an iPad melting in the oven. Yikes! When she finally got it out using oven mitts, Rennie said, “Help me, Mommy!” while staring at his device. Yeah, fixing a melted iPad is a tough one for a toddler to figure out on their own. It will be tough for Mommy too. A trip to the Apple Store is probably in order.
Or, maybe McPhee will go for a smart device-free home. Can’t melt a device in the oven if they’re not in the house, am I right?!
In an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show earlier this year, McPhee talked about the possibility of Rennie having a younger sibling. “I would love to have another baby, but we’ll see,” McPhee said, “[Foster and I are] not in any crazy rush, but I hope so. I love being a mom, I really love it.”
Even if it means burning an iPad or two.
These celebrity parents have gotten honest about their rules when it comes to technology.
