Alex Morgan and Servanda Carrasco Welcome a Daughter

Alex Morgan Hopes to “Get Back on the Field” for 2020 Olympics Just Months After Giving Birth

The soccer-star couple, who exchanged vows on New Year’s Eve in 2014, revealed the news exclusively to PEOPLE with a sweet beachside snapshot that showed off Morgan’s baby bump.

In the photo, the then-mom-to-be, 30, wore a blush-colored midi dress. Carrasco, 31, held his wife’s hand in one of his and a sign reading “BABY GIRL / APRIL 2020” in the other.

“We are so overjoyed to grow our family,” Morgan told PEOPLE at the time, adding of their daughter on the way, “She’s the best World Cup gift I could have asked for.”

Prior to giving birth, Morgan expressed her concern over welcoming her daughter amid the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, which has created unprecedented situations for hospitals and expecting mothers.

“That definitely scared me,” she told Glamour magazine in March of hearing that some hospitals are barring pregnant women from having partners in the delivery room as a way to combat the spread of the virus. “I wouldn’t feel comfortable delivering without my husband or my doula, but especially my husband.”

Morgan went on to discuss how the pandemic made her reconsider her birth plans, revealing that she even considered having an at-home birth to make sure her husband could be there.

“That has been a big discussion with my husband, with my mom, with my team of care — What do I do?” she said, adding, “I would love to give birth at home and have such an intense but beautiful moment of life there.”

Despite the uncertainty, Morgan added that she was excited to meet her baby girl and happy to have more time with her now that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been pushed back to 2021.

“There are a hundred things that have been going through my mind,” she told Glamour. “Now I have more time to deal, and I’ll have more time with my daughter without the endless questions. I can figure it out with a little more calm and a little more clarity. I have to look to the positives.”

The new mom also shared several photos of her baby bump on Instagram leading up to her daughter’s birth — marking memories as she and Carrasco prepared to for their family of two to become one of three.

“Excitement, sadness, confusion … who can read a dog’s mind? Fill me in here,” Morgan jokingly captioned an April 11 picture from inside her baby girl’s nursery, where her pups hilariously looked into the camera with what appeared to be trepidation in their expressions as their owner bared her bump.
