Oh, Baby! Shawn Johnson Pregnant With First Child After Miscarriage

Shawn Johnson is pregnant! The Olympian gymnast announced that she and her husband, Andrew East, are expecting their first baby on Thursday, April 4, after suffering a miscarriage.

 

“Baby East… we cannot WAIT to welcome you to the world and shower you with love,” the 27-year-old athlete captioned her Instagram reveal Opens a New Window. . “@andreweast WE DID IT! #pregnant.”

In the announcement photo, the Dancing With the Stars season 8 winner cradled her bump in  a floral dress while the professional football player, also 27, pointed to it with a smile.

The Washington Redskins player posted a video Opens a New Window. to social media, writing, “Coming 2019 @thebabyeast.” In the footage, a camera panned up from the couple’s feet, revealing Johnson’s budding belly, a pair of tiny white sneakers and their matching smiles.

The baby-to-be already has an Instagram account, featuring a “Baby East” napkin shot and a sweet pic Opens a New Window. of East cradling his wife’s stomach. “I can’t wait to meet you guys!” the caption read.

The Winning Balance author and her husband revealed that they had suffered a miscarriage in October 2017.

“The past 48 hours have been some of the happiest, scariest, and saddest times of my life,” Johnson captioned a YouTube video at the time. “My husband Andrew and I found out that we were unexpectedly pregnant, only to find out hours later some tragic news. I have been crying more than I ever have, but am still optimistic for what is next.”

In January 2019, the Iowa native opened up about wanting to try conceiving again.

“2018 you rocked but 2019… I feel like you’re going to be the best,” she captioned an Instagram selfie at the time. “Here’s to a year dedicated to serving, learning, and hopefully babies haha. #goals #marriage #partnersincrime.”

The couple tied the knot in April 2016, nine months after the linebacker’s proposal at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
