How to sleep: Is your partner’s snoring affecting your sleep? A certain oil could help

A good night’s sleep is needed to feel refreshed, energised and in higher spirits. Yet, many people don’t get the sleep they deserve. Whether that’s from sleeping on the couch, spare room or kept awake by your partner’s snoring.

Snoring can bring a division into the household. It can cause, otherwise happy, partners to sleep in separate rooms.

Or, it could lead to one irritable person who has been kept wide awake while their other half sleeps as sound as a baby.

The CEO of Eos Scientific – a laboratory that tests CBD products – Simon Manthorpe explained his company’s research findings.

“The British public is simply not getting enough quality sleep,” he began. “Our research demonstrates the financial commitments that Brits would make to rectify this.”

Manthorpe continued: “It’s no surprise that the market for holistic remedies.”

One such remedy to get a deep, relaxing night’s sleep is CBD (cannabidiol) oil.

He mentioned that “studies into CBD have shown it can promote better sleep”, by interacting with “the body’s endocannabinoid system”.

UCLA Health – an academic medical centre – confirmed that the endocannabinoid system is involved in sleep”.

“Usage in the UK leaped by over 100 percent in the last 18 months alone,” added Manthorpe.

Health store Holland & Barrett identify CBD as “a natural substance present in the hemp plants (Cannabis sativa)”.

The CBD is primarily extracted from hemp paste – made from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant.

To clarify, CBD is a cannabinoid that isn’t psychoactive, which means it doesn’t affect the mind.

Another cannabinoid from the hemp plant, named Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is psychoactive and can lead to symptoms of psychosis.

Due to this, THC residues in CBD products are strictly controlled before being legally sold in stores in Britain.

What are the symptoms of psychosis?

The NHS associate three main symptoms with psychosis: hallucinations, delusions, and confused and disturbed thoughts.

But, don’t worry, some CBD oil at night time won’t turn into a nightmare.

Instead, the calming effects may help you drift off to sleep more easily – even with a snoring partner beside you.

What causes snoring?

The NHS explained: “Snoring is caused by things such as your tongue, mouth, throat or airways in your nose vibrating as you breathe.

“It happens because these parts of your body relax and narrow when you’re asleep.”

People who are overweight, smoke, drink too much alcohol and sleep on their backs are more likely to snore.

One technique to prevent loud snoring is to invest in a special pillow or bed wedge that’ll keep the snorer on their side.

Alternatively, earplugs can be worn by the partner who’d like to get some shuteye.

Doctors can discuss possible treatments that may help. These include wearing a mandibular advancement device, a chin strap, vestibular shield or nasal dilators.
