Here’s How To Watch The Friends Reunion Special In Australia

After 25 years, the wishful thinking of audiences around the world will finally be answered: the cast of Friends is getting back together. So it might not be the new season we had all longed for, but beggars can’t be choosers and in this instance, we’ll take a reunion special over stalking the Instagram accounts of its stars any day.

Thanks to HBO Max, a reunion special for Friends will premiere on May 27, promising to bring the original cast members of Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer together once again. To make things clear, this is definitely not a reboot, nor is it the start of a new spin-off, season or anything else your frantic mind might be racing to conjure up. Rather, it’s simply an opportunity to revel in some nostalgia and all we can say is, have the tissues at the ready.

Already, a teaser trailer for the episode has landed online and given us all the feels. It shows the cast walking together from behind, as a slowed-down version of the classic theme song, “I’ll Be There For You,” plays. This was followed up with an extended trailer and it looks set to be an epic reunion, full of spoilers we never knew about and an insight into the antics that took place both on and off set.

As we count down the days until ‘The One Where They All Got Back Together’ airs, here’s everything you need to know about the reunion special, including where you can watch it here in Australia.

What is the reunion special?

As the name implies, the episode will see the iconic cast appear alongside show creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman. The episode will be unscripted, but marks the first time all six original cast members are together for a public event since the last Friends episode aired in 2004.

According to Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max, “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together – we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courtney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library.”

He added, “I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real-time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”

Courtney Cox revealed more information when interviewed recently on Ellen, telling the audience that the reunion was an emotional one for her. “It was so unbelievable, so emotional. It’s an unscripted reunion and we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time all of us in, I forget how many years. 15 years? 17 years?”

How can I watch it here in Australia?

The episode will be available to stream express from the US at 5.02pm AEST on May 27, but you’ll need to have BINGE to watch it.
