Women lose three hours of sleep every night – thanks to men snoring

The average British woman sleeps three hours less than her partner does every night, a recent poll reveals.

This equates to a whopping 1,095 hours a year – which is probably why 73% admit tiredness had left them at their wits end.

Ladies confessed they were losing kip because of their partner’s snoring.

Some added that their rest was disrupted because they were the ones expected to tend to kids who wake at night.

The survey, commissioned by Bensons for Beds, looked into the sleeping habits of 2,000 couples.

It found that half of ladies feel constantly sleep deprived, while a third have their kips disturbed every night.

Comparatively, two in ten men say their slumber is disrupted on a daily basis.

As well as exploring how tired men and women were, researchers looked into what is keeping them awake.

The biggest cause of sleep deprivation for women was their partner’s snoring.

Almost a quarter (22%) of participants said their noisy other halves frequently kept them awake.

Meanwhile, 14% said they are expected to get up to check on their kids in the night.

In some of these cases, ladies said their partners sleep through the disruption without getting out of bed.

The NHS says that a lack of sleep can be bad for your physical health.

According to the website, “regular poor sleep puts you at risk of serious medical conditions, including obesity, heart disease and diabetes – and it shortens your life expectancy.”

In order to reduce your risk of these problems, it’s advisable to get around eight hours of shut-eye every day.

The NHS adds: “Most of us need around 8 hours of good-quality sleep a night to function properly – but some need more and some less.

“What matters is that you find out how much sleep you need and then try to achieve it.

“As a general rule, if you wake up tired and spend the day longing for a chance to have a nap, it’s likely that you’re not getting enough sleep.”
