Chemist shares bed bug bite cream that works to ‘block itchiness and calm skin’

The recent wave of bedbug invasion from Paris has sent worrying Brits into frenzy after some families said they have been bitten by the blood-sucking critters at home.

Reports claimed there were sightings of the pesky insects on the Tube in London in Manchester – and Brits were advised to check their wardrobes and duvets for infestations.

People who have been bitten by bed bugs described the symptoms similar to mosquito bites – as they too found red, bumpy marks on the skin with some adding the marks are likely to appear in a cluster.

A chartered chemist has weighed in with his expertise, and shared a way to relieve the symptoms in three simple steps — including a drugstore cream.

"Don't panic!" Bruce Green said. "Most insect bites are not serious and will get better within a few hours or at the worst, days. But some insect bites can cause red and small lumps on the skin to develop, and these can be very itchy."

Bruce, who is also the founder of SOS Serum Skincare, urged people to resist the temptation to scratch because it can lead to wound infection, causing increased pain, pus and swelling.

He continued: "It is difficult to identify what has bitten you if you did not see it happen but the treatment for most bites is similar.

"Step 1: wash the affected area, check that nothing is still in the skin. Step 2 is to apply a cold compress, a flannel or cloth with cold water or an ice pack.

"And lastly follow this with a topical cream or ointment."

When buying a cream, Bruce recommended shoppers to look for one that contains natural extracts like arnica flower, rhubarb, green ginger and tea tree oil.

He added: "These can soothe insect bites and reduce the itch. I think by far, the best is SOS Serum with Wasabia Japonica Root Extract.
