Alexis Ohanian Is The Cheer Leader We All Need In Our Lives

The relationship between Serena Williams and her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, has been one for the books. Not only were they completely mesmerising at their nuptials in late 2017 (exchanging vows in front of their friends and family, including Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Kim Kardashian, Ciara and Eva Longoria) but the love they exude for their adorable baby girl, Alexis Jr, is a beautiful thing to witness.

That bond, which goes all the way from the tech space to the tennis court, was put on display the other day at the Australian Open, when Ohanian sat court side to watch his wife absolutely slay at what she does best. And while Williams absolutely does not need a good luck charm at any of her tournaments, her husband’s encouraging T-shirt choices might provide a little extra oomph to help crush her opponents.

Alexis, who sat in the player’s box during the women’s singles quarterfinals on Feb. 16 against Simona Halep, donned a shirt from Nike’s new Serena-inspired collection.

The white T-shirt has a photo of Serena slamming one of her famous backhands with the words “Greatest Female Athlete” – and female is crossed out. AS IT SHOULD BE!

The conversation surrounding the “greatest of all time” heightened earlier this month after Tom Brady won his seventh Super Bowl ring, and Twitter fell into a debate about whether Serena – and her 23 grand slam wins, four Olympic gold medals, and of course, securing one of those grand slam titles while she was pregnant at the Australian Open in 2017 – is at the forefront.

But the shirt, according to Ohanian who also posted a blunt message on Twitter after the match, was actually referencing comments by former Romanian Olympic tennis star turned billionaire businessman Ion Tiriac, who said Williams should quit because of her age and weight: “Good thing no one listens to that racist sexist (clown emoji) Ion Tiriac.”

This isn’t the first time Ohanian has pulled out a show-stopping T-shirt: last week, when Serena was playing Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova, Alexis Ohanian wore a fabulous Nike black T-shirt with “Unstoppable Queen” written in gold (the queen clearly being Serena).

The best thing about all of this? Alexis’s shirt is available online!
