Poll: adults who vape often buy from unauthorized sellers

Nearly one in 10 Americans who vape purchase their products from an unauthorized seller, according to the results of a survey released Nov. 18 by the American Osteopathic Association.

The Harris Poll conducted an online survey of 2,032 U.S. adults on behalf of the American Osteopathic Association. Among the respondents, 628 had used an electronic cigarette or vaping device in the past 12 months.

The results of the survey indicate that nearly one in 10 adults (9 percent) who had used an e-cigarette or vaping device in the previous 12 months purchased or received the e-cigarette or vaping products from an unauthorized seller (e.g., dealer or street vendor). An additional 27 percent of respondents reported they purchased or received their products from a friend. The vast majority of those who had used an e-cigarette or vaping device in the previous 12 months (83 percent) reported using vaping products with flavoring, including fruit (54 percent), dessert (39 percent), menthol (37 percent), and mint (34 percent).
