Jennifer Aniston Losing Friends Over ‘Anti-Vax’ Views Is All Of Us In Lockdown
Somewhere at the height of the global coronavirus pandemic – a time where people around the world were forced into lockdown – the social media feeds we scrolled through daily were the only source of intel into the outside world. Where Instagram stories used to be an indulgence in selfies, interiors, or our hobbies, science and health have now become indistinguishable from gossip. The platform is merely a vacuum, collecting and dispersing our views on the pandemic, vaccinations and every other global crisis there is, only to see them come under attack from every direction. One actor who knows this only too well is Jennifer Aniston, who recently revealed that she no longer cares to deal with people who don’t believe in vaccinations or are cagey about whether they’ve gotten their Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or any other Covid-19 vaccination.

In a recent interview with InStyle magazine, Aniston revealed that she no longer desires to keep people in her life who are sceptical or unwilling to get the vaccine when the pandemic continues to wreak havoc around the world, with case numbers increase, and the death toll rising. She admitted that she watched news channels too much as the pandemic unfolded, saying that the pandemic was the “worst of times. We could not see the way out.” She added, “We all went through news fatigue, panic fatigue, during the pandemic, because we were hoping one day we would wake up and hear something hopeful, and all we got was more insanity.”
Aniston explained: “…[There’s] still a large group of people who are anti-vaxxers or just don’t listen to the facts. It’s a real shame. I’ve just lost a few people in my weekly routine who have refused or did not disclose [whether or not they had been vaccinated], and it was unfortunate. I feel it’s your moral and professional obligation to inform, since we’re not all podded up and being tested every single day. It’s tricky because everyone is entitled to their own opinion – but a lot of opinions don’t feel based in anything except fear or propaganda.”

As the delta variant continues to wreak havoc in NSW especially, social media has become increasingly draining. After the recent anti-lockdown protests saw countless Australians take to the streets, Instagram has now become a toxic cesspit of aggression and anger, offering little by way of hope of having nuanced discussions surrounding vaccination and the Covid-19 crisis.
