Ivanka Trump warns parents about concussions after daughter takes a hard fall
Ivanka Trump took to Instagram on Tuesday to warn parents about the dangers of concussions after her daughter took a hard fall.
The 37-year-old mom of three shared to her five million Instagram followers that Arabella, 8, was playing a game on Monday and fell, hitting her head. “Yesterday Arabella slipped playing Gaga and hit her head hard (thankfully, she is fine),” Trump wrote on her social media.
She continued, “Parents/Caregivers: below is an excellent resource for concussions – or TBI [traumatic brain injury] – that is worth reading and passing along,” linking out to an article from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on how to identify concussions.
The fact sheet provided by the CDC reports that nearly 800,000 children a year across the United States are taken to emergency departments because of traumatic brain injuries.

In particular, the CDC describes a concussion as “a type of traumatic brain injury—or TBI— caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move quickly back and forth.”
Parents should be on the lookout for symptoms such as clumsy movement, slow talking, a loss of consciousness, as well as mood and personality changes. Appearing dazed or stunned is also a symptom of a concussion, as are headaches, nausea and vomiting, balance problems and feeling foggy.
Rare cases may involve a collection of blood, called a hematoma, and manifest in signs as different sized pupils, a worsening headache, slurred speech, repeated vomiting, seizures, unusual behavior and loss of consciousness. These symptoms should be taken very seriously by caregivers and require immediate medical attention from a professional.
