Coronavirus symptoms: The tell-tale sign in your day-to-day life to watch out
Coronavirus is hazardous for some people. What’s the tell-tale sign you’ve been infected – and need medical intervention?
Neurologists – who specialise in the nervous system – have identified a small number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients who suffer from neurological difficulties.
According to The New York Times, one female patient in her late 50s suffered from “confusion”.
“She could tell the physicians her name but little else, and became less responsive over time,” the paper reported.

- Coronavirus symptoms: New easy-to-spot sign
The NHS explains that “sudden confusion” is medically known as “delirium”.
And there are four ways to tell if someone is confused.
Firstly, the person affected may “not be able to think or speak clearly or quickly”.
Secondly, the confused individual may “not know where they are (feel disorientated)”.
Thirdly, they may “struggle to pay attention or remember things”.
And, fourthly, they could “see or hear things that aren’t there (hallucinations)”.
The NHS adds: “Try asking the person their name, their age and today’s date.
“If they seem unsure or can’t answer you, they probably need medical help.”
If sudden confusion is apparent, go to A&E or call 999 for an ambulance.
To help ease the distressing scenario, the NHS recommends the following advice:
- Stay with the person – tell them who you are and where they are, and keep reassuring them
- Use simple words and short sentences
- Make a note of any medicines they’re taking, if possible
And to help not overwhelm the confused individual, it’s best not to ask a lot of questions.
Additionally, don’t try to stop the person moving around, unless they’re in danger.

- Coronavirus: Professor Chris Whitty reveals three ‘clear’ risk factors
A neurologist at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Dr Robert Stevens, has his say on neurological symptoms of COVID-19.
“It could be [a result of] low levels of oxygen in the bloodstream.”
He continues that this could “have a significant impact on the function of the brain”, and may “lead to confusion”.
Adding: “We are still in the early days of this, and we don’t really know for sure.”
Another concerning symptom of coronavirus is a feeling of breathlessness.
This is cause for alarm, and 999 should be called if you’re struggling to get any words out.
Moreover, lips turning blue signal a problem with oxygen levels in the body and requires immediate medical attention.
Do not hesitate to call an ambulance if you’re experiencing any of these concerning symptoms.
